Key Responsibilities:

  • Purchases direct material: prepares request for quotations and issues purchase orders and agreements that accurately reflect the awarded price, schedule, terms, and conditions.
  • Collaborates and negotiates with suppliers on new and carryover components, program extensions or cancellations as well as engineering changes.
  • Ensures appropriate action plans are implemented for supplier related quality or delivery issues (via SQA or Supply Chain), facilitates issue resolution and settles chargebacks and claims.
  • Manages the purchasing budget and working capital performance, participates in continuous improvement activities and provides suggestions for cost reductions and improved efficiency.
  • Strong focus on VAVE execution, holds cross-functional team members accountable to meet planned implementation commitments, escalates appropriately and in time.
  • Maintains a regular meeting cadence and exchange with CPMs and ensures that discussion points and tasks are documented in the respective commodity tracker.
  • Ensures the PAP system is kept updated on a weekly basis for the assigned scope and verifies correctness of master data and price changes in the month-end reporting.
  • As Program Green Team Member, acts as liaison towards other functions, maintains program tracker and purchasing milestones and orders PPAP and PTR parts.
  • Participates in new business acquisition activities for the plants as required and assigned by local Management
  • Ensures information records are accurately maintained in SAP, applies 4-eye principle for price changes and PO issuance.
  • Complies with GKN Global Purchasing Standards and all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to administrative requirements regarding OSHA, ISO/TS 16949, and ISO 14001.
  • Carries out special projects as assigned by management.
  • Travels as necessary to vendor locations.

Detailed Description

Qualification and Skills:

This role requires exceptional communication and organizational skills. A successful candidate needs to thrive in a pressurized environment using data and facts to help identify risks, manage resources, and solve problems quickly and effectively.

 

  • 2+ years of Automotive Tier 1 or Tier 2 experience in Purchasing or Program Management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural team environment and to interact with / influence across functions.
  • Exhibits high initiative, attention to detail and excellent time management skills (multiple deadlines and customers )
  • Must be an advanced or expert user in Excel (pivot tables, writing formulas, analyzing data output)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to simplify, visualize and present complex situations (“one-pager thinking”) to cross functional teams and management.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Working SAP knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
