Job Summary

Job Description

Provides a primary customer support function for GKN Cylinder Liners operations. Formulate improvement plans, and actively monitor performance. Develop key customer relationships, supported by a broad base understanding of our technical, quality and delivery service requirements, to ensure a continuous satisfaction status with all customers.

Detailed Description

Key Responsibilities:

Operate as the primary contact for key strategic customers across the range of business disciplines…Engineering, Quality, Commercial and Logistics.

  • Undertake regular customer visits to proactively and reactively ensure customer requirements and expectations are understood and where ever possible exceeded.
  • Provide onsite GKN plant assistance as required to support product development, QOS and GKN My Quality initiatives.
  • Provide effective support for the UK technical development office.
  • Undertake initial customer product measurement evaluation, for field returns and development parts.
  • Whenever necessary, respond to emergency situations to resolve issues or provide assistance to maintain continuity of supply.
  • Provide an effective interface between Customer and GKN locations.
  • Perform, participate and facilitate problem solving activities and project management.
  • Provide visit reports to include activities, open issues, and corrective action summaries to appropriate personnel.
  • Develop action plans, maintain and drive closure with supplier caused issues.
  • Support Continuous Improvement plans and indicatives within the supply base and GKN.
  • Monitor Customer defined systems (warranty tracking, prototype development projects etc)
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 Formal qualifications required: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or a combination of education/experience in Engineering related field years of experience in automotive manufacturing or related field.
  • 5 + years of experience in automotive manufacturing or related field.
  • 5 + years experience in a manufacturing environment within a production and or  engineering development function or similar are a strong advantage.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Must be able to work and travel independently.
     
    Soft Skills and Other Competencies:
     
  • High level of organization, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Knowledge of Quality management systems ISO/TS-16949.
  • Knowledge of AIAG core tools PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, etc…
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi discipline team environment
  • Base level business understanding and reasonable commercial aptitude.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative, including performance of duties exercising independent judgement.
  • Represent GKN in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Ability to work directly with upper management in a fast paced environment.
  • Professional and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Stay abreast of and communicate trends within the industry.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage and function in a multiple reporting relationship structure
  • Familiar with MS Office products.
  • Ensure prompt feedback to customers.
  • Fosters open communication, values learning and is able to actively contribute to overall team effectiveness.
  • Ability to travel, both within the USA and overseas (China and Europe) sometimes for extended periods.
